VeriSign VoIP and Connectivity Services Chosen by Charter Communications

By Stefania Viscusi, TMCnet Assistant Editor

Charter Communications is enhancing their Charter Telephone residential and business voice service offering with the addition of VeriSign (News - Alert) VoIP and connectivity services.

VeriSign offers carriers a full suite of IP- and SS7-based voice services.

With the suite of offerings from VeriSign, Charter's private, managed broadband network will be able to connect to the PSTN and at the same time deliver advanced call services like Calling Name delivery, and number portability offered as part of VeriSign's Intelligent Network services.

Number portability is important in allowing customers to keep their existing number as they make the switch to IP.

With VeriSign, it is possible for Charter to not only offer their business and residential customers the benefits of Voice over IP communications, but makes a triple play bundle possible as well.

Ted Schremp, senior vice president and general manager of Charter Telephone commented, "Charter is investing in customer care and service capabilities, and is committed to efficiently delivering value-added services, providing quality support, and a quality customer experience. VeriSign is a well- respected provider of telecommunications infrastructure services, and we’ll rely on them to help us deliver that experience.”

Earlier this year Charter Communications made headlines when they announced the deployment of Sigma Systems' Operations Support Systems (OSS) and with intentions to consolidate back-office systems and IP service networks onto a common platform.
