Crossbeam Systems Looks to Keep Pace with Growing VoIP Market
By Erik Linask, Associate Editor, Internet Telephony magazine
With a new era of communications upon us, one in which new unified communications platforms are connecting a countless multitudes of networks, the need for high end security measures has never been greater. It is environment such as today’s that highlights the importance of solutions like those offered by Crossbeam Systems.
Crossbeam Systems provides Unified Threat Management (UTM) solutions for many of the world’s largest service provider and enterprise networks. With a UTM solution from Crossbeam, network operators and businesses can deploy and manage network firewalls, intrusion detection measure, and antivirus software via a single device. After all, unified communications should also mean unified management. Most importantly, however, a UTM solution maintains network integrity and protects data and communications from any of a number of new threats.
Tudor Investment Corporation clearly subscribes to this theory. It has lead Crossbeam’s latest financing effort, providing $21 million in private equity, along with existing investors Charles River Ventures, Commonwealth Capital Venture Partners, Focus Ventures, Intel ( News - Alert) Capital, Matrix Partners, North Bridge Venture Partners, and Tudor Ventures.
“Crossbeam has shown impressive momentum and innovation in the last year. Their business and technology strategies are clearly in line with market demand, and the leadership they’ve established as a high-end UTM provider makes their prospect for continued success outstanding,” said Rob Broggi, director of technology research at Tudor Investment Corporation. “We are excited to be involved with a company poised for tremendous growth in the dynamic market for network security products and services.”
Indeed, Crossbeam has been ranked as the top provider of UTM solutions by IDC ( News - Alert) for eight successive quarters. With this new round of funding, the company will certainly seek to continue its recent market dominance. Included in that effort, according to the firm, will be an expansion of global sales and marketing program and distribution channel, and, of course, continued innovation to keep pace with the ever changing IP communications environment.
“We are now entering a stage where our capability for delivering best-of-breed security services has converged with where the security market is heading, making this an extraordinary time in Crossbeam’s history,” explained Peter George, president and CEO of Crossbeam Systems.
