BAE Systems to Enhance Collaboration with AT&T Telepresence SolutionBy Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributing Editor BAE Systems Land and Armaments, an operating group within BAE Systems, a global defense and aerospace contractor, will enhance its global collaboration and productivity with AT&T's Telepresence Solution. Disclosing this, BAE officials said that under the three-year $5 million contract with AT&T, the company would use the AT&T Telepresence (News - Alert) Solution to provide an "in-person" meeting experience with leadership teams and engineering teams across the U.S. and the United Kingdom. This capability, officials said, will be expanded to Sweden, South Africa and other regions in the future. Officials pointed out that with AT&T (News - Alert) Telepresence Solution, BAE Systems Land and Armament employees will be able to sit across the table from "actual-size" video of colleagues around the world on ultra-high definition 1080p screens with spatial, wide-band audio and communicate real-time across AT&T's network. Moreover, BAE Systems (News - Alert) Land and Armaments, with the help of AT&T Business Exchange technology, will be able to conduct multipoint meetings beyond the enterprise boundary to help enable meetings with customers, suppliers and partners. "Connecting our employees and bridging the distances between our home markets is a key capability which is being rolled out through our World-Class IT Infrastructure Initiative. AT&T's managed Telepresence Solution is a critical component to enable this capability. Our teams will experience an in-person meeting without having to travel frequently,” said Bharat Amin, VP & CIO at BAE Systems Land & Armaments, in a statement. Amin said he anticipates reduction in travel time, costs, and realize other benefits including improved employee safety and quality of life through this environmentally-friendly tool. Recently, AT&T Government Solutions business unit has announced that it will help agencies maximize their IT infrastructure capabilities under the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA (News - Alert)) Alliant contract. Alliant, which was awarded to 58 other companies, is a government-wide, Indefinite-Delivery, Indefinite-Quantity (IDIQ) acquisition vehicle with a contract ceiling of $50 billion with a five-year base and one five-year option. Under the terms of the Alliant contract, AT&T Government Solutions will provide federal defense and civilian agencies with high quality systems engineering and tailored IT solutions to help them maximize their full IT potential.
