ABI Research Launches New Clean Telecoms Research Service

By Nitya Prashant, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Green agendas are becoming increasingly important in the mobile communications industry. More companies are looking to utilize environmentally sustainable initiatives in their businesses. Recognizing the need for detailed information on available green initiatives, ABI Research has launched a new Clean Telecoms Research Service.

Pointing out that green technology was the next big thing, vice president and chief research officer Stuart Carlaw says, “One only has to look at the splash of solar powered mobile devices at Mobile World Congress (News - Alert) 2009 to see that environmentally friendly solutions are becoming increasingly important to mobile consumers, service providers, application developers and OEMs alike.”
The Research Service offers a strategic and quantitative assessment of the clean telecoms sector by analyzing key trends, market sizing, market share analysis, forecasts, and segmentation by technology, region, as well as value segment.
The enabling technologies studied in the new service include solar, wind, fuel cells, compressed air and bio fuel.
Carlaw notes, “Renewable energy will be a critical aspect in connecting the next two billion subscribers in off-grid and brown power areas. Not only is it environmentally friendly but it is also extremely cost effective.”
The report provides forecasts on important areas such as energy consumption, renewable energy penetration, manufacturing and materials usage, corporate responsibility, regulatory issues, recycling and product end of life management in the market segments of radio access networks, mobile core networks, data centers, smart grids, mobile devices, Wi-Fi and switching centers.
ABI Research (News - Alert) forecasts that in 2009, more than 800,000 base stations will utilize alternative energy solutions such as wind or solar energy. It also predicts that nearly 70 million mobile devices will be ethically disposed of or will be recycled in 2009.
The new service also includes research reports, research briefs, ABI Insights, ABI Vendor Matrices, and analyst inquiry support.
ABI Research is a market research firm focused on the impact of emerging technologies on global consumer and business markets. Utilizing a unique blend of market intelligence, primary research, and expert assessment from its worldwide team of industry analysts, ABI Research assists with their strategic growth initiatives.
