modu Offers Mobile Connectivity for Personal Navigation Devices and DECT Phones

By Stefania Viscusi, TMCnet Assistant Editor

modu, a company with a vision "to bring a fundamental change to the dynamics of the mobile phone industry," officially launched at the Mobile World Congress (News - Alert), being held in Barcelona, Spain.

modu, a tiny, modular mobile phone, offers users the ability to choose a new phone as often as they'd like-- to meet their changing needs, preferences and style- easily and affordably.

Users simply slip modu (News - Alert) into a number of modu jackets, for a new look or added functionality, or into a modu mate, a consumers electronic device that is modu-enabled—giving the device mobile voice and data connectivity.

modu mates will include consumer electronics products such as DECT (News - Alert) phones, digital picture frames, alarm clocks, boom boxes, photo printers, digital cameras, personal media players, personal navigation devices, built-In car infotainment systems and ultra-mobile PCs.

To develop a new range of GPS devices that integrate cellular connectivity capabilities, modu and Tele Atlas (News - Alert) have announced an alliance to develop modu-enhanced GPS products.

The new products add mobile voice and data capabilities to personal navigation devices.

Jacob Shama, VP Value Added Products, modu commented, “The partnership between modu and Tele Atlas makes perfect sense as personal navigation content is, by its very nature, a mobile experience that will benefit from being part of the wider modu ecosystem."

“Tele Atlas is among the first of many content providers that modu will work with to develop modu mates and generate innovative solutions that address consumers’ needs.”
