The videos will be offered in Vudu’s “HDX” format which offers support for 1080p resolution and Dolby 5.1 surround sound. HDX is said to be about as close to Blu-ray as streaming quality can currently come. Vudu’s interface is also getting an update in the near future with a more polished look and added utility.

Vudu’s service is also update more frequently than NetFlix and Hulu’s selctions which can typically take several months to get access to the most recent releases. 720p was previously the upper of video quality offered and will be eclipse by Vudu’s new forma. Buffering times will also see a dramatic decrease with this service with moves starting instantaneously for anyone with a decent internet connection.  Movie selection will range from $3 to $6 dollars a night for newer releases with a selection of classics for $2

1080p streaming was previously offered via the XBOX 360 and with this addition PS3 will edge back into contention as the all around media center par excellence.  Both have also recently offered a motion control features.
