By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Florida-based AuthenTec (News - Alert) Inc., a provider of fingerprint sensors and solutions announced that it has acquired the software assets of EzValidation, a California-based provider of fingerprint sensor authentication and user interface software. This transaction will further strengthen AuthenTec’s complete end-to-end offering.

AuthenTec has taken over the portfolio of EzValidation software, which includes the EzPassport fingerprint authentication software. AuthenTec stands to gain from this acquisition as it will enhance AuthenTec’s client offering, providing authentication software that enhances the fingerprint sensor user experience.

“This transaction will help further strengthen our complete solution, making client applications for our sensors more intuitive and easier to use,” said AuthenTec Chairman and CEO Scott Moody.

“We plan to add the best features of EzPassport to AuthenTec’s software offering, enhancing the fingerprint sensor user experience. I would note that application enhancement efforts such as this are focused on the PC client, and that we will continue to collaborate with our Solution Provider Network to enable complete end-to-end enterprise solutions,” added Moody.

EzPassport is a convenient fingerprint authentication software application for Microsoft (News - Alert) Windows-based systems. EzPassport provides user setup and enrollment besides including features like Windows login, password replacement, file and folder encryption, application launch, screensaver lock and auto logoff through a very intuitive graphical user interface. The company assured that the bundled software solution from AuthenTec with EzPassport features will be available to customers later this year.

AuthenTec provides fingerprint authentication sensors and solutions to the PC market as well as to the wireless device and access control markets. The company has achieved sales figures of over 25 million sensors sold globally.

AuthenTec’s fingerprint sensors utilize “The Power of Touch,” which is the company’s patented TruePrint technology delivering the most reliable touch-powered features cost effectively. The Power of Touch adds security, convenience, navigation and personalization features at the touch of a finger. This can enhance the user experience increasing the functionality of portable PCs, mobile phones and other electronic devices.

AuthenTec’s TruePrint technology makes use of low-power frequency signals, which can read below the skin’s surface to the living skin layer where the true fingerprint is actually present. It can read every fingerprint every time and does not depend on skin conditions.

AuthenTec caters to many companies like ASUSTeK, Fujitsu, HP, Hitachi, HTC, Lenovo, LG Electronics (News - Alert), Samsung and Toshiba, among others.
