GO Networks to Facilitate Muni WiFi Project in Paraty, Brazil

By Meenakshi Shankar, TMCnet Contributing Editor

GO Networks (News - Alert), a subsidiary of NextWave Wireless, is all set to roll out a new municipal WiFi service in the city of Paraty, Brazil.

Specifically, GO Networks will deliver MBW 2100 Micro and MBW 1100 Pico cellular-mesh WiFi (News - Alert) base stations which will function under advanced xRF adaptive beam forming smart-antenna technology to deliver superior network performance.

"The proven flexibility, quality, and performance of GO Networks' smart-antenna, wireless-mesh WiFi technology is ideal to meet the needs of Brazil's municipalities," said Rafael Steinhauser, president of NextWave Wireless - Latin America, in a press release.

GO Networks delivers high-performing WiFi networks that are optimized to deliver next-generation mobile data, voice and multimedia services. Established in 2003, GO Networks uses a unique, innovative xRF technology that operates in a multi-channel access environment.

Excited by the opportunity to work on this project, Rafael Steinhauser said, “GO Networks’ global knowledge and experience in implementing highly capable and cost-effective wireless broadband solutions will play a big part in the success of this trial and in future deployments in cities throughout Brazil."

Complete coordination for the ‘Paraty Digital’ trial will be under the guidance of PRODERJ, the information technology organization for the state of Rio de Janeiro. Utilizing GO Networks’ WiFi gateways and base stations, NextWave will manage the construction of the core network. The municipality of Paraty will provide all logistical support required to implement the new networks.

"Paraty Digital is an ambitious project, and is an important step toward realizing our goal of enabling the first Brazilian state to become 100 percent digital," said Tereza Porto, president of PRODERJ.
