Ericsson to Open New Global Service Delivery Center in Romania

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Ericsson (News - Alert) has announced they will open a new Global Service Delivery Center in Bucharest, Romania, in July 2007, to serve regional and global customers.

Ericsson announced this new Center in response to its rapidly growing Global Services business. The company points out that since the services business depends on people, the business growth is increasing the need for resources.

Around 200 engineers will be employed initially, most of whom will be young Romanian engineers. High-quality education is available in Romania and many universities and graduates assist the recruitment of engineers.

Bucharest’s Center will operate in conjunction with existing global and local delivery centers, and provide timely and cost-efficient delivery to global and local customers.

“The opening of the new GSDC in Romania further proves Ericsson's ambition to grow and develop the services area, as well as our delivery capabilities,” said Hans Vestberg, executive vice president and head of Ericsson's Business Unit Global Services in a statement to the press.

He continued: “We use our global structure, which includes local capabilities and expertise. This, in combination with our global tools, methods and processes, enables us to offer our customers cost-efficient support, development and delivery, which is an important competitive advantage.”

According to Fredrik T. Strand, vice president and head of Service Delivery at Business Unit Global Services the increase in the services business and the new needs are the main reasons for opening a new GSDC in Bucharest.

Ericsson’s services organization employs about 24,000 professionals worldwide, and 6500 of these employees work in GSDCs. Ericsson now have 20 GSDCs including the new center in Romania.
