Calcutta Telephones of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has announced it will offer CDMA
services on EV-DO technology to all users in Kolkata. This service will enable high-speed wireless broadband services like streaming video.
Broadband is the term which refers to a connection that transmits large amount of data at high speeds. Wireless Broadband service (W.B.S) is a provider of high-speed wireless networks which can deliver a high bandwidth Internet service to customers. This would allow users to access the internet wirelessly and provides a cost effective, secure and highly efficient service so users can enjoy high multimedia applications effectively.
This CDMA based mobile service will be launched for the first time in the country in Kolkata and will be implemented later in the other parts of India. Chinese company ZTE (

Alert) Telecom will provide the equipment to Calcutta Telephones. SK Chakravarty, the chief general manager of Calcutta Telephones, said in a statement, "One of the reasons why we choose EV-DO standard is to provide wireless broadband services in localities where there is no copper wire."
Since technological innovations can sometimes affect the eco-system, BSNL has come forward to introduce wireless broadband services to Kolkata not only provides cutting edge service, but also keeps environmental preservation in mind.
