ZK Celltest Incorporates iDEN Capabilities in Drive Test Tools

By Rahul Prabhakar, TMCnet Contributing Editor

ZK Celltest (News - Alert) offers customized and reliable field measurement and network optimization solutions to the wireless industry. The products designed and developed by the company are suitable for installation in vehicles as well as for portable use. The company focuses on non-PC based products that are user friendly and offers security, reliability, and efficiency when compared to other PC-based products.

Recently the company announced inclusion of integrated Digital Enhanced Network (iDEN) capability within its full range of ZK-SAM cellular field measurement and network optimization products.

iDEN has enhanced the ZK product line with its ability to concurrently examine and evaluate iDEN and CDMA networks using the same drive test tool. This technology additionally permits benchmark testing of operators and technologies in a single drive, on approximately five networks.

Although iDEN is an established technology, not many test drive companies possess tools embedded with solutions that facilitate simultaneous network coverage comparisons.

ZK Celltest’s products are integrated with unique technological features that do away with the need of a laptop to register the drive test data collected. This, in turn, makes ZK’s solutions optimal for testing in vehicles, where the presence of a laptop screen often deviates a driver’s attention from the road, and for walking tests where it is difficult to carry the heavy apparatus throughout the building assessment.

The company has also equipped its RMS (Real-time Monitoring System) with the iDEN capability turning it into the first iDEN enabled independent solution. ZK RMS comprises mobile units fitted in taxis, buses, and delivery vehicles that gather data while on the move. This Data is later recorded and transferred on to a central server where it is assembled, arranged, and submitted through Internet portals to the operators.

CEO of ZK Celltest, Rich Miletic commented, “The iDEN systems in use world wide are very popular due to the push to talk (PTT) capability. Giving operators the ability to compare these networks with others provides an invaluable service to ZK customers.”

“We often receive comments stating how much easier our drive test unit is to use than those that utilize a laptop as well as requests to cover additional technologies. The addition of iDEN capability to the ZK family of test tools rounds out our technology road map and allows our users to capture more data in a single system.”
