New Mexico Tech Purchases Loea's 75th E-Band Wireless Link

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

New Mexico Tech in Socorro, N.M., has purchased Loea Corporation’s 75th wireless link operating at data rates above 1 gigabit per second.

The millimeter-wave radios from Loea provide extremely high speed, high reliability communications for multiple channels of voice, video and data over line of sight distances up to a few miles.

Dr. Daniel H. Lopez, president of New Mexico Tech explained in a statement to the press that they required a way to move real time high speed video imagery from field tests at their Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center (EMRTC) facility to researchers, students, and others, with communications equipment that could be repositioned quickly for different tests.

New Mexico Tech found Loea’s products perfect for their application in terms of data rate, range, and ease of installation and alignment.

Adm. Tom Fargo, USN (Ret.), Loea’s chairman and CEO, expressed his excitement to reach the milestone of shipping their 75th pair of Loea gigabit radios, validating manufacturability and reliability through their 3rd generation Loea 2700 product.

“We are thrilled that this link will be installed in the state of New Mexico, which leads the nation in the deployment of Loea’s E-band wireless equipment,” said Fargo.

He continued: “Clearly there is a vision in New Mexico to excel in bringing reliable wireless communications to its government infrastructure and academic institutions, a vision that we believe other states will emulate.”

Loea’s products provide a low cost alternative or backup to fiber optic connections and can be used for Enterprise Connectivity, Cellular and WiMAX (News - Alert)/WiFi Backhaul, Remote Data Storage, First Responder Communications and other applications.

Loea Corporation develops wireless, point-to-point communications technology to operate in the E-Band millimeter wave spectrum from 71.0 to 86.0 GHz.

New Mexico Tech (officially, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology) was originally founded in 1889 as the New Mexico School of Mines. New Mexico Tech specializes in areas of science, engineering, and related fields.
