Murata, WiQuest Get TELEC Approval of UWB Modules

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

WiQuest Communications Inc. and its partner, Murata, have successfully gained TELEC approval of UWB modules based on WiQuest silicon. The companies obtained this approval on April 18, 2007.

For wireless technologies, technical regulations conformity certification is provided by TELEC in the Japanese market. The TELEC certification assures that solutions based on WiQuest silicon can be approved for operation in Japan in the 4.2 to 4.8 GHz frequency band.

Conforming to TELEC regulations for UWB systems the solution includes an embedded module and associated DWA.

“With TELEC approval achieved, product availability in Japan based on WiQuest silicon is now imminent,” said Matthew B. Shoemake, WiQuest founder, CEO and president in a press release.

He continued: “Coupled with the passing of multiple FCC (News - Alert) certifications, WiMedia PHY registration, and WHQL unclassified driver tests, WiQuest's is the most complete ultrawideband solution available on the market.”

The newly approved platform utilizes WiQuest's WQST110/101 chipset, based on the Certified Wireless USB specification from the USB Implementers Forum and the WiMedia common radio platform.

Based on the WQST110/101 chipset, the WiQuest reference designs include the Wireless USB Adapter, 4-port Hub and Half Mini Card reference designs. All these are based on the Certified Wireless USB technology from the USB Implementers Forum.

WiQuest Communications, Inc. is a fabless semiconductor company designing and developing complete WiMedia-based ultrawideband (UWB) solutions focused on ultra high speed, short range applications.
