India's Zylog Systems Selects Aptilo Networks

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Zylog Systems India Limited, a subsidiary of global software solutions and services provider Zylog Systems Limited, has reportedly selected Aptilo Networks to provide the back-end systems deploying its Wi5 wireless broadband offering throughout India.

Zylog officials said that its Wi5 service is now live in a part of Chennai, which would be expanded to Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad in the next year covering approximately 1,600 kilometers and hundreds of thousands of users.

Officials said that ZSIL has obtained a category 'A' Internet service provider license to operate in all of India's DoT circles, and is planning to blanket a total of 40 cities in India with a footprint of more than 12,000 kilometers and millions of subscribers within the next five years.

Aptilo's said that working with the company’s service management platform, the Wi5 service will enable customers to access high-speed wireless broadband easily through their laptops, desktops or mobile devices by subscribing to the Wi5 service on the move.

ZSIL has adopted a Wi-Fi mesh network architecture, which makes the wireless network a continuous one. With the Wi5-Aptilo solution, customers enjoy a mobile, high-speed, highly secure and easy-to-use wireless broadband connectivity.

"The emerging Indian broadband market is on the cusp of a huge growth curve. Today Wi-Fi is perfectly positioned to provide instant broadband access from devices that are already available, in a safe, secure and reliable manner,” said Janakiraman R, chief operating officer and director, Zylog Systems India Ltd, in a statement. "Our long term plan is to achieve penetration in remote areas using our low cost technology and a mix of distribution models including franchise model."

Wi-Fi is well suited to become a strong product differentiator for the millions of handhelds, mobile Internet devices, gaming consoles, as well as laptops and PCs that are sold every month. Officials said.

The company wanted to build a leading first-class service from the very beginning. It was only natural for the company to turn to a leading first-class vendor such as Aptilo that has been proven in large-scale implementations like this time and time again, officials said.

"We are proud to partner with Zylog for this important project bringing true Internet freedom to India," said Jan Sjonell, managing director, Asia/Middle East, Aptilo Networks (News - Alert), in statement.
