WeFi, a global WiFi network information provider, reportedly announced a WeFi add-on for fring (News - Alert), a free VoIP software provided by fring – software that enables peer-to-peer voice and instant messaging service through an Internet connection.
The WeFi (News - Alert) database has nearly 20 million access points. Using the new WeFi add-on, users can gain free access to the network through an Internet connection on their computers or mobile phones. Using the software allows users to save on expensive roaming charges on their mobiles.
“fring is a natural partner for WeFi helping to realize the full benefit of mobile WiFi (News - Alert) access,” said Zur Feldman, chief executive officer of WeFi. “Our current users and the millions of new users we will reach via fring will enjoy easy and free access to hotspots without having to manually insert their location, and will be able to use this free Internet for interacting with friends and data-hungry services such as streaming music, among other mobile Internet experiences that fring facilitates.”
The WeFi network is supported by a community of users who help map the WiFi points nearest to their location. The network allows users to find, connect and enjoy the services of WiFi points that it tracks through its database that’s growing by the day.
The mode of operation used by WeFi is simple. It uses a hotspot directory for locating aWiFi access point and its connection manager software for connecting to the point. The fring software is an Application Programming Interface that makes the connectivity possible. It enables users to connect through all the popular social networks like Skype, MSN Messenger, Google (News - Alert) Talk, ICQ, Twitter, SIP, Yahoo and AIM. It is PC-independent and does not require any hardware.
