TapRoot to Demonstrate First Automated WiFi Test Engine at 3GSM World Congress

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

TapRoot Systems Inc., will demonstrate the first automated WiFi test engine running on a dual-mode (cellular and wireless LAN) mobile phone at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona from February 12-15, 2007, using automated test equipment from Azimuth Systems (News - Alert) Inc.

Running in conjunction with Azimuth Systems’ ADEPT hardware platform and certification software, the TapRoot Wireless LAN Automated Test Client will streamline the WiFi (News - Alert) Alliance certification process for dual-mode mobile phone vendors.

The Wireless LAN Automated Test Client supports many wireless LAN chipsets and major mobile phone operating systems such as Symbian OS, Microsoft (News - Alert) Windows Mobile and Linux Mobile.

TapRoot’s director of product management, Justin Helmig believes that the Wireless LAN Automated Test Client helps TapRoot’s customers bring high quality, WiFi Alliance CERTIFIED devices to market ahead of the competition. Helmig pointed out that Azimuth is a key partner in enabling this fully automated testing environment.

WiFi Alliance Authorized Test Laboratories use Azimuth’s AzCert WiFi Certification Test Suite for Test Engine-enabled devices, which includes the ADEPT Capture Engine. The Test Suite is used to streamline the certification process for a broad range of products including devices with embedded WiFi connectivity such as phones, handheld games and MP3 players, and standard WiFi equipment such as notebooks and network cards.

The AzCert solution can be used by the WiFi vendors to pre-test their devices. These vendors can use the Test Engine methodology to performance test their products.

“Azimuth is excited to work with TapRoot to bring test automation to mobile phones,” said Jeff Abramowitz, Azimuth’s vice president of marketing in a press release.

He continued: “Service providers are demanding 'carrier-grade' WiFi solutions and TapRoot's integration capabilities enable the required handset performance and interoperability testing.”

TapRoot Systems, Inc. provides embedded software products and system integration services for the global mobile phone marketplace.

Azimuth Systems is a provider of wireless data communications test solutions.
