mobile handset.
UniVox, its latest offering, is furnished with a special cellphone subsystem and is a new technological concept. UniVox’s reference design is equipped with state-of-the-art hardware and software components, which have revolutionized the ordinary mobile handset into a high-tech wireless gadget that permits voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) calls.
CSR plans to launch their product in a big way to cater to the needs of a large market. Presently new to the market, UniVox will take some time to gather consumer’s attention. However, according to ABI’s research analysts, due to its unique features it will soon gain popularity and expand into a market of 300 million units in the coming 5 years. CSR is sure to benefit from both goodwill and revenues.
The hardware components of the UniVox Mobile are designed on the lines of UniFi, a single chip WiFi solution from CSR. In addition, it also incorporates the Bluetooth
functionality with the presence of either BlueCore4-ROM or BlueCore5-FM that makes multiple operations possible.
A fine blend of technology, the UniVox Mobile not only permits VoWiFi calls but also utilizes WiFi for a host of other services, such as web browsing and multimedia streaming.
Previously the mobile manufacturers were facing problems and were unable to correlate technologies in order to arrive at a dual mode mobile handset. In addition, creating a market large enough to launch such a product seemed difficult.
Overcoming the two major challenges faced by manufacturers, namely that of high power consumption and simultaneous existence of WiFi along with GSM
and Bluetooth radios, CSR has brought about a definite technical revolution.
Having dealt in the manufacture and application of Bluetooth chips for years, CSR had developed various personalized techniques, which assisted in the successful completion and launch of this product.
Regulating the powering of several parts of the chip through accurate control measures, CSR’s UniFi aided in arriving at a low power position, a state that was long sought by mobile manufacturers.
Furnishing UniVox with an extremely flexible coexistence engine, CSR has achieved a distinct configuration, wherein multiple operations such as VoIP calls with audio routed to a Bluetooth headset can be successfully performed.
Comparing CSR’s UniVox to similar gadgets present in the market, it can be noted that the simultaneous usage of WiFi and Bluetooth in this handset facilitates a faster data throughput, which has advantages for both the manufacturers as well as consumers.
Giving insight about UniVox, CSR’s Marketing Manager for their WiFi Strategic Business Unit, Raj Gawera, said in a press release, “It's clear that consumers like the concept of the dual mode phone, however until now it has proved tricky to deliver the power consumption and voice quality that the end customer requires.”
“With these issues overcome, we believe that dual mode phones present a tremendous opportunity for manufacturers. UniVox Mobile has been designed from the bottom up using power saving and coexistence technologies that we have developed specifically to ensure a smooth user experience.” he added.
CSR truly believes that “Well begun is half done.” Through the launch of UniVox, they have accomplished what they had set out for.
