NextPhase to Expand its WiMAX Network

By Niladri Sekhar Nath, TMCnet Contributing Editor

NextPhase Wireless (News - Alert) has decided to expand its next-generation WiMAX wireless network to meet increased customer demand for high-bandwidth connectivity services.

NextPhase claims that the enhanced next-generation wireless network will offer flexible, reliable and cost-effective connectivity solutions to the 135,000 businesses in Southern California within Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.

When the company first built its wireless footprint in 2004, customers had doubts over the reliability and scalability of wireless broadband and were reluctant to use it.

“In less than three years, we’ve seen the market change dramatically, as we’ve moved towards an ‘always on’ world where customers increasingly require connectivity that allows them to access information ‘any time, any place and with any device,’” said Robert Ford, president and CEO, NextPhase Wireless, in a press release. “Over that same period, customer acceptance of wireless technologies has increased significantly, and we're seeing a marked increase in customer demand as the communication and media explosion drives bandwidth consumption.”

Tom Hemingway, chairman and COO, said they are accelerating their network upgrade program in response to increased demand for bandwidth from customers.

”In addition, we are actively looking to add additional tower sites in fast-growing, underserved markets within Southern California,” said Hemingway.

NextPhase Wireless is a next-generation connectivity company that develops integrated Internet, voice and data communication solutions. The Company designs, deploys and operates its own wireless networks and also provides wireless technology solutions to businesses and municipalities.

Once considered a myth, wireless Ethernet has changed society in the way we work, play and live. And while WiFi is increasingly penetrating our everyday lives, it still remains nascent in the communications space.
