Aliph's Jawbone Bluetooth Headset Uses BlueCore5-Multimedia from CSR

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Aliph’s new Jawbone Bluetooth headset is using BlueCore5-Multimedia Bluetooth technology from CSR, a global provider of personal wireless technology. CSR’s (News - Alert) integrated Digital Signal Processor (DSP) enables the Jawbone’s patented NoiseAssassin technology, which eliminates noise disturbances in any environment.

Based on the original Jawbone headset, the new Jawbone is designed 50 percent smaller than its predecessor and features unique elimination technology that delivers even better voice quality in a smaller and more ergonomic package.

The flexible DSP architecture of CSR’s BlueCore5-Multimedia enabled Aliph to add innovative features that help boost the performance and functionality of the Jawbone headset. The patented Voice Activity Sensor (VAS) in Aliph’s Jawbone allows the headset to accurately distinguish the user’s voice from ambient noise. By leveraging the CSR DSP inside BlueCore5-Multimedia, Jawbone’s proprietary NoiseAssassin algorithm not only aggressively cancels out noise but also accurately preserves the user’s voice.

Aliph used BlueCore3-Multimedia for the highly successful original Jawbone headset and thus found it very logical to choose CSR for the new Jawbone, noted Richard Drysdale, vice president, product management and strategy, Aliph. Their company wanted the new Jawbone to be even better than its popular predecessor, and CSR’s fifth generation multimedia Bluetooth technology allowed them to offer their customers high quality wireless audio performance.

CSR was proud that Aliph picked CSR for the second generation product, according to Anthony Murray, senior vice president of CSR’s Wireless Audio Strategic Business Unit.

“The new Jawbone has improved on what was one of the best headsets on the market and, by using CSR’s BlueCore technology, will continue to provide end-users with industry leading connectivity and best-in-class audio performance,” he stated.

CSR recently moved all of its storage to NetApp platforms, with business applications on Data ONTAP 7G and critical chip design on NetApp Data ONTAP GX. This decision greatly improved its disaster recovery capabilities, and consolidated its IT data center.
