AvantWave Bluetooth Module Uses CSR for High Wireless Data Rates

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

CSR announced Monday that AvantWave’s Bluetooth v2.0 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) module uses CSR’s BlueCore4-ROM silicon to achieve wireless data rates up to 3 Mbps.

The Bluetron BTR300S Bluetooth SiP (System-in-Package) is integrated with a multi-layer antenna that enables manufacturers to implement high-speed Bluetooth connectivity into the latest consumer electronic products.

Available now, the module can satisfy the wireless demands of a number of consumer applications, and has been particularly embraced by designers of new-generation MP3 devices wishing to add value to their products through wireless streaming of music and data transfer.

According to Jon Hudson, SVP of CSR’s Consumer strategic business unit the BTR300S is a prime example of CSR’s extensive partner support.

Hudson said that the CSR has worked closely with its partners to fully meet both their requirements and those of their customers.

“The success of this module within the MP3 market shows that we have achieved this objective and we expect to announce the first end design-wins in the coming months,” he added.

The BTR300S module is designed specifically for consumer applications such as MP3 players, digital cameras, PDAs, handsets and the latest PMP (Portable Media Player) products. The module implements CSR’s BlueCore4-ROM silicon.

The single-chip Bluetooth radio and baseband IC from CSR is the ideal choice for modules that target such consumer applications.

Products using the BTR300S can interoperate with a full range of Bluetooth devices due to its features including data rates up to three-times faster than v1.2 Bluetooth devices, lower power consumption, and full backwards compatibility with existing Bluetooth v1.1 and v1.2.

“The new BTR300S module offers device manufacturers the most complete Bluetooth solution, allowing manufacturers to bring their products to market in the shortest possible time. CSR's technology and support is vital to providing our customers with the most advanced Bluetooth on the market and overcoming time, cost, and design constraints,” said Jonathan Lee, CEO for AvantWave in a press release.

He continued: “AvantWave wanted to design a complete Bluetooth module that focused on reducing both size and cost to meet the needs of consumer device manufacturers. CSR's technology and support throughout the design process meant that AvantWave was able to reduce the number of external components required for manufacturing and under the new Bluetooth qualification process using this module will save on both time and cost.”

CSR is the global provider of personal wireless technology and its product portfolio covers Bluetooth, FM receivers and WiFi (IEEE802.11).

AvantWave Limited, founded in Jan 2000, is one of leaders in developing cutting-edge Bluetooth solutions.

Once considered a myth, wireless Ethernet has changed society in the way we work, play and live. And while WiFi (News - Alert) is increasingly penetrating our everyday lives, it still remains nascent in the communications space.
