Connect One Debuts Nano WiReach

By Jai C.S., TMCnet Contributing Editor

Connect One (News - Alert), the Device Networking Authority, has just released Nano WiReach, an embedded WiFi bridge which the company says can quickly and easily connect any embedded device to 802.11b/g wireless LANs with minimal programming.

Connect One has been manufacturing semiconductors and device servers that facilitate secure and reliable Internet Protocol-based communication for everyday devices. Nano WiReach is one such module that is based on Connect One’s iChipSec CO2144 IP controller chip.

Nano WiReach measures just 1.7x3.3 centimeters and includes a complete suite of Internet protocols and applications, enabling immediate connectivity for embedded solutions without any WiFi (News - Alert) driver development or porting.

“Customers are looking for easy and cost-effective ways to WiFi-enable devices with serial, LAN, or cellular modem connections,” said, Ariel Shulman (News - Alert), vice president of sales for Connect One.

Shulman mentioned Nano WiReach as a module that offers an immediate solution, reducing time to market and allowing customers to launch cost-effective WiFi-enabled products.

Nano WiReach’s firmware supports several modes of operation which includes; LAN to WiFi Bridge, Serial to WiFi Bridge, Full Internet Controller mode, Embedded IP Routing and PPP emulation. To easily integrate into existing or new designs, Nano WiReach includes RMII, USB, SPI and fast UART interfaces. It is available in two versions — one with an antenna connector and one with a built-in antenna.

Additionally, Nano WiReach includes the latest WiFi encryption algorithms (WPA/WPA2, in both PSK and enterprise modes) and Internet SSL encryption algorithms. It can also serve as an inherent firewall, protecting the embedded application from attacks via Internet.

Nano WiReach’s firmware is remotely updateable and thus new security or connectivity protocols do not require application redesign, increased memory, or faster processor speeds.

The module operates at an industrial temperature range of -40° to 85° C (-40° to 185° F) and is RoHS-compliant.

This new embedded WiFi Bridge will be available from November for $59.
