Lenovo and TELUS have released the selected versions of Lenovo ThinkPad notebook computers with embedded access to TELUS Wireless High Speed (EVDO) service in Canada.
The new version of these ThinkPad notebooks provides built-in, immediate broadband-like download speeds through TELUS and doesn’t require a separate PC card or additional hardware.
According to Jordan Buck, National Sales Specialist, Lenovo Canada, TELUS helps them extend the mobile computing environment for ThinkPad notebook customers. This capability gives users easy and secure access to TELUS’ Wireless High Speed service when and where they need to do business.
The enabled notebooks also include Lenovo’s new Access Connections 4.1 software that can detect the best available network and seamlessly assists the end user with the network connection.
ThinkPad notebooks will now be preconfigured for TELUS’ Wireless High Speed service through this agreement. The service delivers typical download speeds of approximately 400 to 700 kilobits per second, and maximum possible speeds of more than 2 megabits per second, which is similar to a wired high-speed broadband connection
“TELUS and Lenovo understand that the ability to access mobile data, anywhere, anytime using a fast and reliable service can significantly improve your business and personal communications,” said Robert Blumenthal , TELUS’ senior vice-president of Products and Services in a press release.
Blumenthal believes that by bringing together Lenovo’s innovative ThinkPad notebooks and TELUS’ Wireless High Speed service, they are delivering the means for ultimate productivity while on-the-go.
Currently available in 36 areas across Canada, TELUS Wireless High Speed service includes all major urban centers. ThinkPad notebooks can also access the Internet through TELUS 1X digital service where TELUS Wireless High Speed service is not available.
Additionally, ThinkPad notebook users have Wireless High Speed Internet access while traveling in more than 230 cities in the United States.
Starting this month, TELUS-enabled ThinkPad notebooks are available from Lenovo and from Lenovo’s nationwide Business Partner community.
Lenovo develops, manufactures and markets reliable high-quality, secure, and easy-to-use technology products and services worldwide.
TELUS a major national telecommunications company in Canada, with $8.5 billion of annual revenue and 10.5 million customer connections including 4.9 million wireless subscribers, 4.6 million wireline network access lines and 1.1 million Internet subscribers.
