Talbots, a major specialty apparel retailer will use Symbol’s Mobility Services Platform (MSP), mobile computers, bar code scanners and WiFi
network infrastructure in its retail locations throughout the United States and Canada.
Talbots’ store associates will use the Symbol solution to meet the increasing demands of customers with a wireless platform. The solution will ensure that customers receive help immediately eliminating the need to walk the store for customer service.
According to Randy Richardson, senior vice president of information services, Talbots, a key component to increase customer satisfaction and reducing wait time at the register is to enable their employees to service customers anywhere on the store floor.
The intuitive and productivity-enhancing technology from Symbol has allowed the specialty apparel retailer to bring information directly to the customer to provide a more efficient shopping experience as well as enhance business operations.
Talbots realized the advantages of a mobile platform and began using Symbol mobile computers for inventory management. The success of the Symbol solution drove Talbots to expand their use of mobile technology to achieve even greater levels of customer service with Symbol MC50 enterprise digital assistants (EDAs), WS2000 wireless switches, AP300 access ports, LS2208 bar code scanners and MSP.
Using Symbol MC50 EDAs, Talbots provide associates with wireless communications for immediate access to the most current inventory information. For its business-critical Wi-Fi
network infrastructure, Talbots chose Symbol’s WS2000 wireless switches and AP300 access ports providing wireless connectivity for the MC50 EDAs.
To improve productivity at the retail point of sale, Talbots also selected the LS2208, Symbol’s fastest selling bar code scanner. Symbol’s MSP manages the complete system, from handheld devices to wireless infrastructure. This allows administrators to perform maintenance, observe performance and monitor the battery life of handheld devices.
“Symbol’s retail solutions are designed to give retailers the ability to effectively service customers with real-time access to merchandise availability, product details and account information anywhere on the store floor,” said Mark Self, vice president of the retail solutions group for Symbol Technologies (
