Club Med Selects Alcatel-Lucent to Transform Worldwide Telephony Services

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributing Editor

The all-inclusive resort company, Club Med, has entered into a 7-year agreement with Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert). According to the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent and its global business partners will install and manage the company’s telephony solution for hospitality.

With the help of Alcatel-Lucent’s managed services solution, Club Med will get excellent control and visibility over its entire telephony solution, utilizing the centralized management and reporting features. It will also allow the resort to reduce costs and streamline processes.

30,000 lines at 87 sites, which include sales offices, resort hotels, and Club Med corporate headquarters in Paris, will be equipped with Alcatel-Lucent’s OmniPCX Enterprise telephony solution in the initial phase of the project. Club Med can now add new locations as required, with its high scalability and flexibility. To offer value-added guest services such as in-room WiFi (News - Alert), Alcatel-Lucent and Club Med are also implementing DSL technology throughout Asia. By using television as a multimedia device, Club Med is also looking advanced solutions like television-based softphones, which will be facilitated by DSLAM technology.

Customer expectations are touching dizzying heights alongside emerging technology and lifestyle trends. Alcatel-Lucent says the company will continue to offer innovative and effective solutions to meet guest expectations, to optimize hospitality operations and generate new revenue streams. Alcatel-Lucent solutions are characterized by standards-based architecture, end-to-end technology and a commitment to sustainable development.

Club Med says the resort is looking at a long term partner instead of just searching for an equipment provider. The company opted for Alcatel-Lucent for its broad product line, industry expertise and global presence. As the company marches towards its vision of becoming the worldwide specialist of all-inclusive, upscale, friendly and multicultural vacations, the company is confident that Alcatel-Lucent understands its objectives and will work with the company to achieve its goals.

“Alcatel-Lucent’s solution, dynamic hospitality, combines end-to-end technology and management solutions to improve guest experience, streamline operations, and increase revenues,” said Tom Burns, chief operating officer of Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise activities. “Club Med understands the importance of communications in today’s highly competitive hospitality industry, and shares Alcatel-Lucent’s vision of combining the key elements of network, people, process and knowledge to help transform itself into a dynamic enterprise.”
