Alltel Wireless Offers Wireless Broadband Service in Shreveport, Monroe

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Alltel Wireless in America has launched Axcess Broadband service in Shreveport, Monroe and surrounding areas in north Louisiana, east Texas and southern Arkansas.

With Axcess Broadband it is easy to surf the Internet, access e-mail and calendars and download large, graphic-rich files while on the go.

EVDO (evolution data optimized) technology provides customers with unlimited wireless access to the Internet at speeds that match wired broadband connections. The service will enable the customers to access advanced business and entertainment applications from their laptops, smartphones or handsets at average speeds of 400 to 700 Kbps with maximum speeds of up to 2.4 Mbps.

Joanna Miller, vice president of business solutions for Alltel Wireless in Louisiana said in a press release that they are commited to meet the growing data needs of their customers.

“Axcess Broadband Internet service delivers an unmatched wireless broadband experience that will keep both traveling business professionals and casual users connected with the fastest and most reliable data services,” she explained.

Alltel is rapidly expanding its high-speed network across the country and plans to launch Axcess Broadband in additional markets across the country this year to give it one of the largest EVDO footprints of any U.S. carrier.

Alltel Wireless has also announced the availability of its full lineup of advanced wireless services to customers in northern Virginia. Earlier this year, Alltel completed its purchase of Virginia Cellular, a privately held wireless provider based in Staunton, Va.

Harry Bruns, president of retail services for Alltel Wireless expressed excitement on the launch since they can now provide customers with the full Alltel experience, including handsets like the MOTOKRZR K1m and services like live TV and more than 40 channels of commercial-free, streaming music.

“We’re committed to providing our customers in northern Virginia with the best, most innovative wireless service in the industry,” said Bruns in a press release.

Alltel owns and operates one of the nation’s largest wireless networks and has more than 11 million wireless customers.
