Radiopaq Intros Rp5 for Digital Radio

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Radiopaq has introduced a new hardware Rp5, claiming it will pave the way for the future of digital radio. Rp5 allows users to listen to Internet radio, alongside analogue and digital stations without requiring a computer.

The Rp5 uses Wi-Fi to connect users to the site. At the push of a button, users can listen to content from internet radio stations and podcasts from around the world. Company officials said that everything is searchable by name, genre, country or language.

The Radiopaq Rp5 is equipped with FM radio and digital audio broadcasting (DAB) capability, which offers users a choice of local stations that can be found by name, as well as by region or genre.

Also, with RP5, users can listen to their own playlist through an mp3 player. Along with headphone socket, a remote control is also included. In addition, synchronization between the Rp5 and Radiopaq.com means that whatever changes the user makes or saves on Radiopaq.com will appear on Rp5.

Prash Vadgama, president at Radiopaq, said that it’s the simplest way to find and manage all the internet radio content users want, allowing users to choose between FM, DAB and internet radio whether they are at the computer or using Radiopaq system. He also said the five-way speaker system and the combination of digital and analogue processors enhance the audio signal.

“We believe that the Radiopaq offering, with its seamless interaction between the website and the hardware, is the future of radio,” Vadgama said.

In February, the company launched Radiopaq.com in beta form. Radiopaq features thousands of radio stations from around the globe, along with a comprehensive podcast library and dedicated news service.

In June, the company said that the Guardian and Sky News will provide content for Radiopaq. At Radiopaq’s Snapshot page, users can also find a feed from Sky News. In addition, the Guardian’s library of diverse podcasts can also be accessed at radiopaq.com.

Officials said Podcasts from the Guardian are available alongside programs from Sky News, and other distinguished brands.
