Axesstel Expands Product Portfolio to WCDMA/HSPA

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Axesstel (News - Alert) has launched the EU230 HSUPA Mini ExpressCard/34 for High-Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) networks. The new release enables mobile broadband access to advanced HSUPA networks from any device with ExpressCard/34 slot, USB connector, or Wi-Fi capability (using an additional Smart kit), and allows speeds of up to 7.2 megabits per second (Mbps).

Axesstel’s EU230 works with devices containing ExpressCard/34 Slot type and can connect to standard USB ports with a USB adaptor. The company is also providing an additional Smart kit with the product that includes Wi-Fi and backup battery. The Smart kit can quickly convert the EU230 to an access point and create a small hotspot. EU230 HSUPA Mini ExpressCard/34 also features an embedded antenna that has the ability to support tri-band UMTS/HSDPA frequencies and features receive diversity for optimized device performance and user experience.

Clark Hickock, chief executive officer for Axesstel, said in a statement that this advanced modem is their first UMTS-based product and is one of the dozen new devices they are launching in 2008.

According to Hickock, the ExpressCard expands their product portfolio beyond 3G to WCDMA/HSPA networks and increases their addressable markets. He noted that HSPA technology has a strong momentum right now, and they are targeting markets worldwide where WCDMA/HSPA is deployed.

“According to GSA (News - Alert), as of July 2008, 3G/WCDMA networks have been rolled out in 94 countries and 35 countries are deploying HSUPA networks, spread on all continents,” Hickock said.

Axesstel has engineered the EU230 to address emerging and developed market demands and enable operators to meet strategic objectives. Hickock added that their new Mini ExpressCard provides an advanced modem solution and Smart kit gives end-users the convenience of a personal gateway with backup battery support for email or Internet access anytime and anywhere. These capabilities help operators increase average revenue per unit from data services.

The company informs that homologation samples for ExpressCard and USB adaptor will be available in mid-August and homologation samples for Smart kit will be available in late October 2008.

Axesstel designs and develops fixed wireless voice and broadband data products. Earlier this year, the company launched the first EVDO Rev. A fixed wireless phone. Their PV500 Series of CDMA2000 1xEVDO Rev. A combines voice and high-speed data communications with receive diversity for optimized device performance and user experience. The new device boasts several features such as a large graphic LCD, text messaging and a data interface port for USB. The PV500 also includes a quality built-in FM tuner, in one convenient, compact communications device.
