The American University in Cairo will deploy Nortel (News - Alert) solutions to provide all communications services including VoIP, multimedia and WiFi (News - Alert) mobility to its new “City of Learning” campus.

 

In 2008, AUC will relocate to the new 260-acre “City of Learning” campus. The new campus will include the latest communications services to create a technologically advanced and environmentally sensitive complex. The services will benefit 5,500 full-time students and 1,500 faculty and staff of the University.

 

Nortel’ new integrated voice and data network will not only increase communications efficiencies of AUC staff and students but also provide high levels of mobility to users.

 

Thanks to the Nortel Security solutions the services can be securely accessed both within the campus and remotely.

 

David D. Arnold, president, AUC expects the solution to enhance their position and reputation as an educational center of excellence in Egypt. Arnold said that the secure, cost-effective infrastructure from Nortel ensures that all of their voice, data, video and wireless communications have the embedded flexibility to easily evolve to meet changing demand.

Nortel worked very closely with AUC to develop and deliver products to meet their priorities,” said Ramin Attari, Nortel Middle East Leader.

Nortel was recently in news when cable operator ntl Telewest chose to deploy Nortel’s optical system in order to ease its delivery of a triple-play offering comprised of voice, video and data services for residential and enterprise customers in the UK.
