Xirrus WiFi Arrays will be used to service traditional data and voice clients at TATA’s corporate offices and warehouse locations, according to the companies. SETS S.R.L. will also wirelessly link those facilities together utilizing the WiFi Arrays integrated and dedicated wireless bridging capabilities, they say.
To avoid the significant cost of installing and maintaining a buried inter-building fiber plant, TATA in Treviso asked SETS S.R.L. to provide WiFi both inside and between their buildings.
Giacomo Broggi, director at SETS S.R.L, said that the company deployed Xirrus WiFi Arrays at TATA to deliver local client connectivity as well as voice roaming services.
The buildings were linked by using the integrated and automatic Point-to-Point capability of the WiFi Array, according to the company. SETS S.R.L created a switchless enterprise, saving their customer considerable monthly telecommunications expense by allowing them to wirelessly redistribute their wired uplink connection across two facilities.
The Xirrus WiFi Array integrates a high-gain directional antenna system along with four, eight, or 16 radios, each capable of a per-radio TCP throughput link of 18Mbps at distances greater than 800 meters between WiFi Arrays, according to the company.
Xirrus officials said that by bonding up to three dedicated radios per link, organizations can create robust wireless bridges with speeds equivalent to wired 100Mbps Ethernet, while at the same time servicing wireless users with the additional radios in the same devices.
