Zilog, a company that supplies embedded system-on-chip solutions and remote control and universal infra-red database solutions, today announced the launch of Crimzon Connects, a digital home and office control and monitoring solution for consumers and small business owners.

 

Based on Zilog’s remote control capability, company officials say, Crimzon Connects gives consumers the facility to “remotely access and control their home or office electronic devices from any Wireless Fidelity (WiFi)-enabled device such as a laptop, smartphone, or intelligent connected remote control.”

 

“Crimzon Connects supports multiple connectivity interfaces, including WiFi (News - Alert) to IR, radio frequency, Z-Wave, and X10 control. Consumer electronics manufacturers can easily add IR and RF control to their existing products. An eZ80AcclaimPlus!-based live home Web server provides the central point of access to all devices in the home or office,” Zilog officials said.

 

The demand for intelligent home control solutions is increasing, according to industry experts. Apart from the desire to have a secured home and office, consumers are driven by the energy saving benefits and feasibility of these solutions, they say.

 

“The rise in anytime, anywhere connectivity has created a desire by consumers and businesses to be connected and in control of their homes and offices,” said Michelle Leyden Li, general manager of Zilog’s new Home Control business unit.

 

“Crimzon Connects allows you to control on site or remotely virtually any device in and around the home or office via a device you already have such as a laptop PC or a browser-based smartphone such as Apple’s (News - Alert) iPhone. It marries diverse appliances and devices into a seamless, unified home/office control environment accessible through a simple user interface anytime, anywhere in the world,” added Li.

 

Crimzon Connects supports both Web-enabled and native application-based options, according to the company. This feature distinguishes Crimzon Connects from other similar products, said Zilog officials.

 

The solution provides easy-to-use customer interface applications for various devices including Apple iPhone (News - Alert), iPod touch and Blackberry Curve. Zilog plans to add more Web-enabled devices in the future versions of Crimzon Connects, company officials say.

 

Crimzon Connects is powered by Zilog’s ZBase code database, which is equipped with new Z-Pic functionality, company officials say

 

Using Crimzon Connects solution, manufacturers can enable unified remote access in electrical appliances such as electrical meters and HVAC, security and entertainment systems.

 

“By taking advantage of our Z-Pic feature, consumers will be able to easily program all their home entertainment devices with little effort and be able to control everything with any Web-enabled or application-driven device, such as an iPhone or Blackberry,” said Steve Pope, a senior architect at Zilog.
