The entertainment complex of
Bell Centre will go wireless with a secure wireless network from
Nortel to deliver next-generation multimedia applications, including VoIP, secure wireless access anywhere within the facility and remote access for staff when off-site.
Equipped with a secure and reliable, wireless high-speed network, the Bell Centre can now enhance customer service by providing quicker admittance, faster transactions processing at concession stands and offering more flexible payment options.
Nortel’s (

Presently the wireless handheld scanners are operating on the existing network. These will be migrated to the new Nortel WLAN to more quickly scan and validate tickets at entry points of the entertainment complex, which seats up to 21,273 spectators.
The Press Gallery will also be able to accommodate up to 300 media personnel. With the new wireless network Media and photographers can securely and instantaneously exchange, upload and update files.
Nortel will also introduce its WLAN Handset 2211s to provide stadium staff with seamless mobile communications from any location within the building.
Coaches, players and scouts can now remotely access the network applications such as player stats and multimedia, as well as connect and support one another.
“The Bell Centre is the most important sports and entertainment venue in the province of Quebec, and Nortel is honored to provide a wireless solution that enables the Bell Centre to deliver champion service to its guests,” said Steve Slattery, president, Enterprise Solutions, Nortel in a
press release.
He continued: “In teaming with the Montreal Canadiens, Nortel is able to provide a customized service that will achieve greater efficiencies for staff and player personnel and provide a new dimension to the spectator experience.”
In addition to the Bell Centre’s existing Nortel IP telephony communication system, Nortel will reportedly deploy its data infrastructure to handle the applications desired by the Montreal Canadiens. This will provide seamless connectivity to staff and media from one side of the stadium to the other.
Nortel was recently in news when
KVH Co. Ltd deployed an IP-based, next generation network from
Nortel to support future expansion of communication services such as hosted IP voice, unified messaging and collaboration services.
By upgrading its existing optical network infrastructure to a next generation IP network, KVH can address the needs of enterprise customers seeking more IP-based value added services. The migration will also enable the company to expand sales and improve efficiency.
