Safend and Bit9 to Offer Protection from Wifi, Mobile Device Threats

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Safend and Bit9 Partner to Offer Data Leakage Prevention and Enterprise Application Whitelisting Solutions

To offer a complete, granular solution for protecting enterprises from data threats through WiFi, portable devices and applications, Bit9, Inc. and Data Leakage Prevention today entered into an agreement to bring application control capabilities to Safend customers.

The confidential data stored on enterprise PCs and laptops is protected by controlling access to removable storage devices and wireless communication ports, according to the companies, and by monitoring both the transfer of sensitive data. With the partnership, customers can now provide access to appropriate business applications and prevent internal and external threats from malicious software downloads, company officials say.

Safend officials say their company provides endpoint data leakage prevention solutions that protect against corporate data loss via physical, wireless and removable media ports. Safend’s solutions are deployed by multinational enterprises, government agencies and small to mid-size companies. The company says it has more than 700 customers worldwide and has sold 1.5 million licenses.

Bit9 says it’s adding Safend to its roster of marquee partners. Bit9 Parity is designed to ensure that only approved, white-listed software is allowed to run, while preventing disruptive unauthorized software and malware from running. While Safend and Bit9 customers will get a combined approach to eliminating endpoint security vulnerabilities, they will also get more granular threat protection with this partnership, company officials say.

“Our customers are confident that with Safend Protector, their endpoints are protected from unauthorized access via storage and WiFi (News - Alert) devices. At the same time, customers want to be able to restrict which applications can or cannot be used in the organization,” said Susan Callahan,  Safend’s vice president of business development and marketing. “By partnering with Bit9, we’re solving this problem by combining the power of Safend’s endpoint DLP offering with Bit9’s whitelisting capabilities. Together, we offer a comprehensive solution for controlling the use of software, devices, and WiFi in customers’ IT environments.
