The widget is a simple, mini-applications run on a user’s computer desktop and provides quick access to useful information and functions. Users can download the Xirrus Wi-Fi Monitor widget for free from the Xirrus Web site and from the Yahoo! Widget Gallery.
The Xirrus Wi-Fi Monitor serves as a powerful tool for both end users and IT managers to monitor, secure, and troubleshoot their Wi-Fi networks. Also available as a Windows Vista gadget, Xirrus Wi-Fi Monitor provides at-a-glance display of available Wi-Fi networks and their relative distance using a radar-like presentation.
People can use the Wi-Fi Monitor widget for a number of practical applications, including searching for Wi-Fi networks, verifying Wi-Fi coverage, displaying laptop Wi-Fi settings, detecting rogue APs and aiming Wi-Fi antennas.
Xirrus launched the Wi-Fi Monitor gadget for Windows Vista in late 2007. Since then the solution has become a very popular Wi-Fi tool on the Microsoft Live Gallery site approaching 200,000 downloads. According to Xirrus, the Yahoo! Widget extends the same functionality to Windows XP users.

Xirrus also announced that the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS) in Wake Forest, North Carolina, has replaced legacy Wi-Fi access points with high performance Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays throughout its three story library servicing over 250 simultaneous users.
Tim Shidal, director of IT at SEBTS said in a statement that their older Wi-Fi network could not cover the entire library, nor support the amount of students and faculty needing Internet access. With the Xirrus solution, SEBTS now have a robust and secure high speed wireless network with the bandwidth and client capacity to service the growing demand for Wi-Fi access.
