New equipment that is needed to expand the capacity of the GlobalWave Inmarsat ( News - Alert) satellite was installed at the Stratos Land Earth Station in Perth. This equipment is now fully functional and provides Skygistics the platform on which they can build their subscriber base in Africa, where challenging conditions require asset tracking equipment that is rugged and durable.
"Skygistics' need for satellite capacity to track its customers' transportation assets grew so rapidly that additional network infrastructure and subsequently an additional satellite channel was required to meet demand. This million dollar expansion exemplifies the escalating need globally to protect and track high value assets," said TransCore President John Worthington.
Skygistics, a South African vehicle tracking company, is a regional operator for TransCore’s GlobalWave system and provides coverage for both Africa and Australia, and the surrounding coastal waters. Its communication services run regardless of weather or time, and use the latest technologies to assist customers in the control, tracking and management of their assets. Their system incorporates both satellite and wireless technology, along with GPS. The companies' products are mostly utilized for tracking the movement of road vehicles, ships and trains, while keeping track of key use and performance criteria like speed and fuel consumption.
GlobalWave has three ground control stations which service five different countries. This customer support network extends globally, including more than 600 commercial fleets throughout North America.
