Birdstep Technology (News - Alert)—a provider of embedded database technologies—announced the selection of their RDM Server by Oy Winpos for a new range of Point of Sales (POS) systems.

 

The server will manage all POS operations within complex interconnected environments. Originally called Velocis, RDM Server is a follow-up to the success of RDM Embedded; it was released by Raima as a client/server configuration. Birdstep Technology Inc., which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Birdstep Technology ASA, offers the Raima Database Manager product line—high-performance embedded database solutions. The company addresses the need for data management solutions in a range of industries including Mil/Aero, Telecom, Financial, Consumer Electronics, Medical, Industrial Automation, and Business Automation.

 

Duncan Bates, vice president of product management at Birdstep, commented, “Birdstep has been focusing on the interoperability and compatibility between our products to allow customers like Winpos to start out small and grow into our high end products. With a well defined upgrade path, moving both the application development and customer base of a RDM Embedded based system to RDM Server is done in a matter of days, and opens up a world of functionality.”

 

Oy Winpos Ab has its main customer base in the Nordic countries, where it offers complete POS information systems to specialty stores, food stores, restaurants and the public sector. Single stores as well as multinational chains of stores are both served by the company’s broad range of POS systems. Winpos information systems are reputed for their efficiency and ease of use.

 

Mikael Smedman, technical director for Winpos POS Systems, remarked, “When dealing with larger customer installations the key requirement is to manage POS data across multiple instances of our systems simultaneously. With the quality and performance of the Raima Database Manager (RDM) products, we’ve made the right choice in our database selection.” He went on to say, “After years of success with the RDM Embedded product, we needed to scale up and make the move to Birdstep’s high end product, RDM Server.
