Optichron Compact Digital Pre-Distortion ICs Ship in Volume

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributing Editor

The nonlinear signal processing company, Optichron (News - Alert), Inc. has announced the volume production availability of the OP4400-15IBBG and OP4400-20IBBG, members of the OP4400 family of high-performance digital pre-distortion (DPD) linearization products.

The latest production news follows a previous announcement last quarter of these compact-packaged versions, which are optimized for signal bandwidth of 15 MHz (OP4400-15IBBG) and 20 MHZ (OP4400-20IBBG), according to Optichron officials.

Officials pointed out that this smaller 169-pin, 14 mm x 14 mm BGA package offers an advantage where physical size is important.

They also explained that the OP4400 series are monolithic integrated circuits (ICs) that use Optichron’s proprietary nonlinear digital signal processing technology to eliminate nonlinear distortion, which is the main performance inhibitor for power amplifiers (PA) used in wireless infrastructure equipment and other signal processing systems.

Also, officials claim that it is industry’s first commercially available, self-contained DPD device, requiring no external processor or support circuitry, and requires no algorithmic programming.

All of the OP4400 family are adaptive, universally applicable to any PA configuration and support any signal chain architecture and modulation scheme, officials said.

“Optichron is pleased to report that customer demand is strong and we are continuing to ramp production across the OP4400 series,” Perry Constantine, CEO at Optichron, said in a statement.

He also said that the volume availability of a compact DPD IC with the industry’s best performance is much anticipated and ensures customers of a “clear path to more innovative and cost-effective wireless infrastructure development and production.”

Also, the DPD product line operates over the full industrial temperature range of -40 degrees to 85 degrees C, and is RoHS compliant, according to Constantine.

The OP4400 DPD devices are available in several speed grades. Constantine explained that the OP4400-30IBAG is optimized for a signal bandwidth of 30 MHz, the OP4400-20IBAG and OP4400-20IBBG, are optimized for a signal bandwidth of 20 MHz and the OP4400-15IBCG is optimized for a signal bandwidth of 15 MHz.

Now in volume production are the OP4400-20IBBG and OP4400-15IBBG.
