SkyCross Provides Antennas for Samsung's BlackJack II, Juke, and F700

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributing Editor

SkyCross (News - Alert), a wireless company providing antenna-centric RF solutions, has announced that it is providing antennas for three Samsung handsets, the BlackJack II, Juke, and SGH-F700.

Company officials said that the versatile SkyCross antenna technology provides the freedom to design “sleek, feature-rich devices that operate on many frequency bands often with a single, small antenna.” SkyCross is providing Samsung (News - Alert) with designing and manufacturing services from its three facilities in Korea

Officials pointed out that SkyCross antennas are designed to conserve battery life as features are added, which offers better radio-frequency systems performance. After the success with the first BlackJack (SGH-i607), Samsung turned to SkyCross again to develop its successor, according to officials.

The single SkyCross antenna in the BlackJack II (SGH-i617) covers six frequency bands that do not hamper smartphone’s slim design. According to Piper Jaffray, the BlackJack II was among the top selling smartphones at AT&T (News - Alert) during December.

The Juke (SCH-U470) is a MP3 player phone with a form factor that swivels 180 degrees, and SkyCross antennas in this device enable CDMA, Bluetooth, and GPS capability. Piper Jaffray identifies this handset as one of Verizon’s (News - Alert) best selling music phones.

In F700, a touch screen smartphone offered in Europe to rival the iPhone (News - Alert), SkyCross antenna covers four bands including tri-band GSM and Bluetooth. This handset has been awarded the iF Communication Design Award 2007 for its user interface named “Croix.”

Claiming that Samsung continues to select SkyCross for both high volume and technically challenging projects, Dr. Young-Min Jo, managing director and vice president of technology development at SkyCross Korea, said in a statement, “This is a testament to our superior antennas and local support.”

Also recently, SkyCross has introduced Isolated Mode Antenna Technology (iMAT), a single-antenna approach providing benefits for device designers and manufacturers, network operators, and end users.
