By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Redline Communications (News - Alert) Group Inc. announced that Comunicacion y Telefonia Rural S.A. (CTR), a rural telecommunications company in Chile has selected Redline’s RedCONNEX(TM) AN-50e to enable it to expand its wireless broadband network.

CTR offers broadband services to customers in Chile including cable, satellite and wireless access.

Redline specializes in standards-based WiMAX access and broadband wireless infrastructure products. Deploying its products would help the Chilean company CTR; to cover five cities in the southern part of the country thereby increasing its subscriber base by 30% said Redline in a press release.

Redline provides support for several applications including mobile backhaul, video surveillance, storage and business continuity, premium Internet access besides other voice, video and data services.

The RedCONNEX AN-50e would allow CTR to provide long-range, high-capacity wireless backhaul for the company’s existing satellite and wireless access infrastructure, hence enhancing the backbone network of CTR. CTR would be able to serve more customers with quality of service with the enhanced National telecommunication infrastructure.

Rene Catalan, Network Manager at Comunicacion y Telefonia Rural S.A. said, “CTR has established a large and loyal customer base by providing our customers reliable data services. We chose Redline’s proven RedCONNEX(TM) product family for its ability to deliver reliable, low-latency connections so our customers can enjoy real-time data and voice applications.”

“With Redline’s AN-50e, we know our customers, especially those in rural communities, will receive the most reliable and advanced communications available,” he said in the press release.

Kevin Suitor (News - Alert), Vice President, Marketing and Business Development, Redline Communications Inc. remarked, “With the privatization of the telecom industry in Chile, CTR recognized an opportunity to increase its presence in this now highly competitive environment, by upgrading the capacity of its current network and expanding its reach into new cities. The AN-50e is the perfect solution for CTR, it will enable it to expand its network, while continuing to provide quality access to its current and new customers.”

I-Systems S.A. of Santiago de Chile undertook the task of planning and installing of the RedCONNEX(TM) AN-50e network. I-Systems is a certified partner of Redline and is also a systems integrator. The backhaul deployment would offer both internet and telephone services to residential customers as well as businesses covering distances of 500 km in some locations.

Commenting on the deployment, Rodrigo Villar, Chief Engineer at I-systems said, “Wireless broadband service providers must balance their customers’ expectations of extensive, high-quality broadband service against the reality of high-cost bandwidth. Using the AN-50e, CTR maintains its competitive advantage, meets customer expectations, and avoids expensive investments in additional infrastructure, allowing for more growth and deployment opportunities.”

“By investing now to expand our current infrastructure, we are, investing in our future, a future that will see its return on investment within 20 months. We are also very pleased with the support and service we are receiving from Redline and I-Systems,” concluded Rene Catalan of CTR, optimistically.
