By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Azalea Networks, a supplier of wireless mesh broadband equipment, has announced that it has been selected by CECT-Chinacomm to supply equipment for the “Wireless Beijing” project designed for the upcoming Olympic Games.

Azalea Networks would supply and support phase one of the projects which include 800 to 1000 wireless mesh routers, giving broadband access over 30 miles or 50 kilometers in Beijing’s central business district, financial street and other Olympic areas said Azalea in a press release.

“Wireless Beijing” will upgrade the communication service in Olympic venues and in tourist spots and will enable reporters to have instant access to the network to relay their news coverage to respective offices world wide.

It will also help visitors to share their experiences at the Olympic Games.

Ping Qiu, the president of CECT-Chinacomm Communications, remarked, “Azalea’s advanced wireless mesh equipment and solutions, local technical team, support system, and rich experience in deploying wireless cities at home and abroad meet our requirements for broadband wireless mesh communications.”

“CECT-Chinacomm Communications is committed to the exploration and practice of wireless broadband and related service. Our current task is to successfully complete the establishment of ‘Wireless Beijing’ under the leadership and support of the Beijing municipal government and Chaoyang district government,” he added.

Headquartered in Milpitas, California and Beijing, Azalea offers the next generation Wireless mesh technology. This enhances communication over a large area and can be deployed faster, is expandable, has high bandwidth and is cost effective.
