AT&T ( News - Alert) Inc. announced earlier this month, a definitive agreement to acquire Edge Wireless Holding Company.
Edge Wireless is a regional wireless company offering premier voice and data wireless service in southern Oregon, northern California, southeastern Idaho and Jackson, Wyoming, with approximately 172,000 subscribers.
AT&T already has a percentage hold of Edge Wireless which allows Edge customers to seamlessly roam throughout most of the United States on the AT&T network. This agreement entitles AT&T to acquire the remaining 64.3 percent of the company.
The acquisition will also offer great benefits to AT&T in terms of broader network coverage by adding the GSM network of Edge Wireless.
Upon completion of the deal, Edge Wireless customers will gain access to the complete services and products of AT&T as well as AT&T's fully integrated GSM network, which now covers more than 290 million people in 13,000 U.S. cities and towns.
The transaction is expected to close by mid 2008, subject to the regulatory approvals.
