SR Telecom has launched its symmetryMX V5.2 voice solution. Operators with traditional voice-switched infrastructures can use this solution to leverage the wireless technology of WiMAX.

Scheduled for rollout early in 2008, SR Telecom’s symmetryMX V5.2 voice solution has received buy-in from tier 1 ILECs and is interoperable with switches of leading operators.

Serge Fortin, president and CEO of SR Telecom said in a statement that this WiMAX voice solution truly rounds out their symmetryMX suite. Fortin explained that the solution allows customers to plan for the future all the while taking care of present requirements.

Thanks to the cost-effective SR Telecom's symmetryMX V5.2 voice solution, operators are able to deploy wireline-equivalent POTS services using WiMAX (News - Alert) spectrum and to interface seamlessly with class-5 switches using a V5.2 interface. This open standard developed for operators with circuit-switched infrastructures enables the installed base of voice switches deployed by operators around the world to connect with SR Telecom’s broadband all-IP wireless platform, symmetryMX.

SR Telecom's symmetryMX V5.2 voice solution relies on open standards (V5.2 and SIP) and is compatible with a broad range of end-user gateways; preserves scarce spectrum and allows several subscribers to receive carrier-class voice service from a single base station; and manages the end-to-end solution, including the wireless network, and both end-user and network gateways, using its NMS.

By using SR Telecom's symmetryMX V5.2 voice solution operators can continue offering the voice services subscribers expect, such as Caller ID, SMS and call waiting, while enjoying the freedom to choose dial-up Internet access or broadband Internet equivalent to ADSL - up to 10 Mbps. The new solution minimizes the total cost of ownership of a WiMAX network.

Fortin added that for operators the symmetryMX V5.2 voice solution reduces operating expenses without necessitating any change to their business model or billing infrastructure. The operators can therefore begin generating revenue immediately.
