Blue Ocean Wireless (BOW), an Irish company delivering GSM communication capability for the merchant maritime sector, has announced that it has been chosen by Admibros Shipmanagement to provide GSM coverage for their fleet.

 

Initially, Admibros will install BOW’s GSM solution on eight of their container and tanker vessels. BOW officials stated that using the BOW service, seafarers can—for the first time—make and receive voice calls and send and receive SMS messages using their existing mobile phones.

 

Chris Christofides, fleet director at Admibros, commented in a press release, “The Blue Ocean Wireless service will allow our seafarers to enjoy the most innovative crew calling and SMS solution of the maritime market.”

 

He also explained that the solution separates crew communication from ship’s business calls and allows crew “for the first time ever to receive incoming calls and SMS on to their mobiles. The solution also prepares us for the future since we will proceed with the Fleet Broadband upgrade.”

 

“We are delighted to announce Admibros as a customer. This represents another significant customer milestone for Blue Ocean Wireless. We have a rapidly growing customer base and have made strong progress since our foundation less than one year ago,” added Robert Johnson, CEO at, Blue Ocean Wireless

 

Johnson also claimed that BOW continues to make significant progress in rolling out its product. To date, “BOW has signed up over 150 vessels for installation.” Ireland based BOW focuses on expanding communication capability in the merchant maritime sector. BOW has provided GSM connectivity for seafarers in deep ocean water
