In the process of promoting the maturity of wireless technology, Wi-Fi Alliance, a non-profit organization with deep focus on driving the interoperability of high-speed wireless local area networking, has recently released a new white paper which details more on the benefits of Voice over Wi-Fi.
The new white paper released by Wi-Fi Alliance ( News - Alert), "Delivering the Best Experience with Voice over Wi-Fi Programs," specifies more about the unique requirements of the voice application on Wi-Fi devices and previews its Voice-Personal certification program, planned for launch in the first half of 2008.
Wireless local area networking is the latest emerging standard which has encouraged several venders to develop products that can accelerate and embrace the future of this booming technology. Wi-Fi is used in millions of homes, businesses, and hotspots worldwide.
Wi-Fi promises to be the best medium for voice data. With bundle of development occurring in the VoIP industry, various products are up in the market which has been welcoming this trend. And the latest improvement coming up now is Voice over Wi-Fi technology. This is currently been implemented by several venders on their newly launched mobile devices. Wi-Fi VoIP devices using SIP (Session Initiation Protocol ( News - Alert)) Standard, promises to enable the users to make internet phone calls even in remote areas.
To regulate the certification of these products, Wi-Fi Alliance started the testing and certification programs that ensure the interoperability of WLAN products. ABI Research ( News - Alert) predicts that more than 340 million Wi-Fi-enabled handsets will ship in 2011. Voice over Wi-Fi delivers flexibility, convenience and cost savings over traditional cellular or Wire-line phone service.
More than 4,000 products have been designated as Wi-Fi CERTIFIED(TM), by Wi-Fi Alliance encouraging the expanded use of Wi-Fi products and services across the consumer and enterprise markets.
