Alert) Inc. has announced the launch of its third-generation (3G
) wireless network in western Massachusetts.
AT&T informed that it has added 3G technology to more than 75 sites in Western Massachusetts, which is offering mobile broadband services in the Greater Springfield area along the Interstate 91 corridor between the University of Massachusetts at Amherst south through Holyoke, Springfield, Chicopee, and Longmeadow.
In addition, the 3G service continues to Massachusetts state border and along the MassPike (I-90) from Palmer to Westfield. In the Greater Worcester area, the company officials pointed out, the 3G deployment covers the city of Worcester and extends west along both the MassPike and I-290 from the I-495 belt to the I-84 interchange. The 3G network will also extend southwest on I-84 to the Massachusetts state border.
AT&T's 3G high speed wireless data network is expected to provide customers with broadband-type data speeds and feature-rich wireless content, including videos, pictures and music, entertainment, news and weather programming through MEdia Net, AT&T’s mobile Internet portal.
Company officials stated that their company’s 3G users can also view through CV, an on-demand streaming video service that offers a library of mobile video content. Also, the
AT&T 3G network provides AT&T LaptopConnect mobile users DSL-like speeds for their laptops, which enables users to access the Internet, their company's Intranet
or corporate e-mail from anywhere within the 3G network.
“Our goal is to ensure that AT&T customers have the very best wireless experience possible—which includes excellent coverage and quality of service
,” Steve Krom, vice president and general manager of wireless operations in New England at AT&T', commented in a press release.
He also added that his company’s ongoing investment in the Massachusetts network provides customers the “benefits of a state-of-the-art voice and data network along with cutting-edge wireless devices.”
At present users of AT&T 3G wireless network can access the wireless broadband network in more than 220 U.S. major metropolitan areas.
