Redline Strikes Major Deal in Tanzania

By Narayan Bhat, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Canada's Redline Communications (News - Alert) Inc. has announced that Hotspot Business Solutions, a telecommunications provider in Tanzania, has chosen the company’s RedMAX products for the first country-wide WiMAX network in the African nation.

Hotspot, which will launch the first phase of its WiMAX (News - Alert) network today, is planning to deliver commercial WiMAX services to Dar es Salaam, the country’s premier commercial centre, and Mwanza.

With its six-city WiMAX network, Hotspot will be able to deliver high quality voice, video and data Internet services to government agencies, corporations, educational institutions, and residents across Tanzania.

Redline's WiMAX product delivers high-speed internet and data services to customers, which includes small and medium enterprises, educational and health-care institutions.

The first phase will include the deployment of a RedMAX network in Arusha. Hotspot expects to increase the number of its subscribers in these regions by up to 60 per cent over the next two-years. The second phase of the Hotspot RedMAX deployment will begin in January 2008, and will bring WiMAX services to the capital city of Dodoma, as well as Morogoro and Zanzibar.

"This is a great milestone in Tanzanian history. By launching WiMAX in the region, we have become a catalyst for positive change,” said Emmanuel Nyaki, Chief Executive Officer of Hotspot, in a statement.

Redline says its WiMAX systems enable Hotspot to deliver revenue-generating broadband services and the network will strengthen operator to reach more subscribers, allowing a much faster return on investment.

Hotspot hopes to yield returns within a span of just ten months after the deployment.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Hotspot WiMAX network will be managed and coordinated by RapidCloud Technology Ltd, a Redline Certified Partner and major systems integrator that provides local logistical and post-sales operational support to the Hotspot and other RedMAX network installations in the East African region.

“Hotspot is the latest example of a company that has trialed Redline’s products and chosen RedMAX for its commercial deployment of WiMAX in a fast-growing emerging market,” said Kevin Suitor (News - Alert), Vice President, Marketing and Business Development, Redline.
