By Deepika Mala, TMCnet Contributor

Aicent Inc., a provider of data network services and solutions for global mobile operators entered into a partnership relation with HarborLink Network Ltd to enable seamless Wi-Fi access at HarborLink's hotspot locations throughout the United States.

Some of the hotspot locations include participating Buffalo Wild Wings and Skyline Chili restaurants, BP fuel and convenience stores and several other major restaurant chains, retail locations, universities, municipal Wi-Fi locations and convention centers across the United States.

“As a leading provider of mobile data solutions and interworking solutions for over 160 mobile operator customers globally, Wi-Fi roaming is a very important component of Aicent’s mobile solution set,” said Lynn Liu, CEO of Aicent, in a press release. “Wi-Fi roaming has become especially critical to mobile operators as a data offloading and affordable roaming strategy. With this new partnership with HarborLink, Aicent continues to grow its carrier class Wi-Fi network making it possible for our customers to offer subscribers a widespread Wi-Fi roaming footprint throughout the North and South America, Europe and Asia-Pacific regions.”

“HarborLink wants to lead global efforts for 3G/4G offload onto Wi-Fi Networks, and by partnering with Aicent, we seek to drive the value of Wi-Fi roaming for mobile operators as an effective and affordable alternative to 3G/4G roaming,” said Robert Brown, HarborLink's global vice president of sales and marketing, in the release. “Aicent has extensive relationships in the mobility space worldwide and we are excited to be working with them to extend our network to their many partners through their Wi-Fi Roaming eXchange platform.”

Within the next 30 days, Aicent mobility partners will be able to access the Wi-Fi network at HarborLink Locations, which includes participating Buffalo Wild Wings and Skyline Chili restaurants, BP fuel & convenience stores and several other venues across the U.S.

In related news, Telcel (News - Alert) has selected the Aicent MMS Gateway Service to provision its global multimedia message service, or MMS, capabilities.
