VeriFone has introduced Vx670 Bluetooth, a new version of its handheld electronic pay solution for short distance environments.

According to VeriFone, Vx 670 Bluetooth has utilized Bluetooth 2.0 wireless protocol, which enables easy installation of a secure wireless payment system. In addition, the solution allows the integration of wireless communication with traditional landline telecommunications through modem contained in the Vx 670 communications station.

“Vx 670 Bluetooth provides the option of utilizing wireless mobility and flexibility with landline telecommunications, which is still a very common form of payment authorization, or with broadband,” informed Paul Rasori, vice president of global product marketing for VeriFone, in a press release.

The communication station, in Vx 670 Bluetooth, is discoverable for a brief period after power-on to establish link with the handheld devices.

“No transaction data is stored in the PCI PED approved system and customer PINs are never transmitted without additional encryption,” explained Paul Rasori.

According to the company, Vx670 Bluetooth will be an ideal solution for the smaller retailers, the ones who are seeking advantage of wireless without the requirement of cellular accounts or WiFi installation. It is also expected to be useful for businesses with limited distance requirement.
