YTL e-Solutions Bhd (YTLE), a subsidiary of the YTL Group and a Malaysia-based company with a varied business portfolio and a keen focus on providing wireless internet broadband service, has agreed to participate in the WiMAX Spectrum Owners Alliance (WiSOA) to build and operate international roaming using WiMAX (News - Alert) technology.

 

WiMAX, (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) is creating a lot of momentum in the industry, which allows users to be connected over long distances and access Internet at speeds faster than typical wireless networks.

 

With this move, YTLE's 80 percent owned unit, WiMax Capital Management, becomes a part of the WiMAX Spectrum Owners Alliance (WiSOA).

 

Members of the organization include companies who own spectrum and operate services in the WiMAX bands. By joining the group, WCM will earn half of all revenues derived by WiSOA from global roaming.

 

Subscribers of YTLE's WiMAX service will also benefit by getting access to Internet services in other countries without needing a subscription.

 

Earlier in March of this year, YTLE was awarded the 2.3 GHz broadband wireless access spectrum (WiMax) by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

 

"We see this as an opportunity to influence the first steps of what is about to erupt into a major global industry. WiMax is already the global standard for wireless broadband, and for myself, I look forward to the day very soon when I can use my WiMAX broadband to access the Internet anywhere in the world, the same way I use my GSM phone," YTLE executive chairman and managing director Tan Sri Dr Francis Yeoh Sock Ping said of the roaming initiative.
