KeyOn acquires Onawave Wireless

By Rahul Arora, TMCnet Contributor

KeyOn Communications Holdings, Inc., a leading American provider of wireless broadband, satellite video and voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) services, has successfully completed the acquisition of substantially all of the wireless broadband assets of Onawave Wireless, which represents the third acquisition of network assets and subscribers in Iowa under Rural UniFi since its inception in the fourth quarter of 2009.

Rural UniFi is a strategic acquisition initiative designed for independent wireless broadband companies to realize immediate value from their networks by being acquired by or merging with KeyOn (News - Alert). With the acquisition, KeyOn has increased its already expansive network footprint in Iowa. This is KeyOn's seventh acquisition under the Rural UniFi program, and the company's eleventh acquisition overall.

“The purchase of Onawave adds to our operations in Iowa and allows us to reduce operating costs by integrating an adjacent KeyOn network into a single Internet termination point,” said Jason Lazar, KeyOn's Vice President of Corporate Development and General Counsel, in a statement. “As a result, this transaction is immediately accretive.”

Interested wireless broadband operators can visit KeyOn's unique initiative through the company's website where they can receive more information and begin the qualification process.

KeyOn Communications Holdings Inc.’s acquisition of Onawave is its eleventh overall. Owing to its organic growth and acquisitions, KeyOn has expanded its network footprint to reach approximately 55,000 square miles and cover over 2,800,000 people, as well as small-to-medium businesses. The company targets underserved markets with populations generally less than 50,000 and is instrumental in offering broadband services with VoIP and satellite video services to both residential and business subscribers across 12 Western and Midwestern states.

KeyOn holds a successful track record of acquiring companies through its Rural UniFi initiative and growth of its overall subscriber base. The management of the company intends to drive subscriber growth through additional acquisitions as well as organic growth across the company's expanding footprint by offering bundled services including broadband, video, VoIP and related valuable services such as the Bullseye Club.
