JRC Launches Compact, Outdoor Mobile WiMAX Base Station

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Japan Radio Company recently unveiled its compact, outdoor-installable Mobile WiMAX (News - Alert) Base Station (BS) NTF-291 that contains IEEE Std 802.16TM-2005 based MAC and PHY unit, two RF units for MIMO Matrix A and B capability, GPS oscillator for synchronization, and versatile Network interface unit in all-in-one chassis of 370H x 320W x 270D dimensions.

According to JRC, these compact, all-in-one, outdoor-installable designs will facilitate the site acquisition and installation operation. The network interface unit of the new BS has two modes. The first mode includes all the required ASN (Access Service Network) functionalities (Profile B) and directly interfaces to the CSN (Connectivity Service Network). Full interface to the centralized ASN-GW for ASN Profile-C is provided by the other mode.

Both these modes will cover a broad range of deployment scenarios from starting very small ASN to the dense network in metropolitan area.

JRC also announced that their Mobile WiMAX Base Station achieved MIMO IOT with Fujitsu User Terminal based on Fujitsu New Mobile WiMAX SoC (System-on-Chip) MB86K2. Fujitsu Microelectronics America reportedly demonstrated the MIMO data transmission between JRC Base Station and Fujitsu User Terminal.

Both JRC and Runcom (News - Alert) Technologies demonstrated the high throughput data transmission in 20MHz BW between JRC Base Station and JRC and Runcom User terminals respectively both based on Runcom Mobile WiMAX SoC RNA200.

Japan Radio Company intends to continue conducting the IOTs with several WiMAX venders and provide Open WiMAX system.

JRC was founded in 1915 and since that time they have developed unique technology based on radio communications and information technologies.
